A favourite to pollinators, Agastache or Anise Hyssop produces a silvery-green foliage with purple flowering spears. The flowers have an aniseed scent which attract lots of different types of insects and in turn feed birds and bats. An essential variety for a wildlife garden.

Sow Indoors: Feb - May
Transplant: April - May
Sow Outdoors: April - June
Flowers: July - September

Sow seeds into a tray of good quality compost and lightly cover. Place tray into a heated propagator or clear bag in a warm sunny position. Germination 14-30 days.
Once seedlings emerge, they can be transplanted into individual pots and should be kept warm. When the risk of frost has passed, harden plants off by placing outdoors during the day and bringing them back indoors at night. Repeat for 7 days. Transplant 30 cm apart where they are to grow on.

Delphinium

These giant flowering spikes will come back year after year and will provide a dramatic back drop for your borders. A great cut flower, this giant imperial mixture will produce majestic towering double blooms in an array of colours and are often found in cottage gardens.

Sow Indoors: February - April
Transplant: April - May
Flowers: June - September

Sow seeds 3mm deep into a trays of good quality compost. Make sure the compost is damp but not wet and place into a clear bag in a warm sunny position. Germination 1-3 months.
Once seedlings are large enough to handle, they can be transplanted. When the risk of frost has passed, harden plants off by placing outdoors during the day and bringing them back indoors at night. Repeat for 7 days. Transplant 30 cm apart where they are to grow on.
Delphiniums are best in the back of borders spaced 60cm apart but will also do well in pots.
