A colourful mixture of 5 beetroot varietiesÉ Boltardy, Chioggia, Burpees Golden & Albino.
This colourful mixture produces not a only a colourful mixture of skins but also sweet flavours. Baby beets can be enjoyed as an early crop or mature roots can be left to grow to 10cm juicy globes. Eaten raw or cooked these globes of goodness will cheer up any dish. Try steaming the leaves as an alternative to spinach.

Sow Outdoors: March - July
Harvest: July - October

Sow seeds direct outdoors in a sunny weed free location. Beets like rich well drained soil. Sprinkle seeds thinly and evenly into drills 1cm deep and cover over. Space drills 30cm apart and ensure they do not dry out. Germination 12 - 24 days.
When seedlings are large enough to handle, they can be thinned to 7cm between plants. Take care not to damage the roots when thinning.
Beets should be kept cool and moist to prevent them running to seed - this is when the plant produces foliage and flowers rather than roots.
Harvest roots from June when they have reached at least 3cm in size. Water beets before lifting them. This will loosen the ground around them to allow you the check the size begore lifting them. Lift last of the crops before the frost returns. Beetroot can be stored raw in boxes of sand in a cool dry shed or cooked/pickled.
