Half-hardy Annual
Anaheim is a moderately hot chilli producing a high yield of long sweet peppers. Ideal as a garnish and added to salads, this under-rated variety are great for adding that chilli pepper flavour without the burn.
Anaheim peppers score 2,500 on the Scoville Heat scale.
Sow Indoors: March - April
Transplant: May - June
Harvest: July - October
Sow seeds into trays of good quality compost and lightly cover. Place tray into a heated propagator or clear bag in a warm sunny position. Chilli seeds need to be grown in heat, a warm greenhouse or conservatory are ideal. Germination should take between 10-21 days. Once seedlings have 3 true leaves they can be transplanted into individual containers and should be kept warm.
If plants are to be transferred outdoors, they should be hardened off by placing them outdoors during the day and bringing them back indoors at night. This should be repeated for 7-10 days. Plants should be spaced 30cm apart and be located in a warm sheltered position.
Anaheim peppers are generally harvested when green but can be left to turn red. Harvest when the fruit is firm.
