Hardy Annual
A lovely mixture of Cornflowers, a favourite of butterflies and bees and a lovely addition to any bed, border or patio container. Also, ideal as cut flowers to bring a touch of summer indoors.

Direct Sow
Cornflowers prefer to be in well-drained soil and a sunny position. Sow seeds into fine, warm and moist compost direct outdoors where they are to flower. Always sow seeds after all risk of frost has passed and the ground is warm and moist.
Sow seeds directly into the ground by scattering evenly over the area and covering with a little excess soil. Water well to activate seed germination and continue to water plants during warm weather. Always protect seedlings from cold weather.

Over Wintering
For early flowers the following year, fill a tray with high quality compost and sow seeds over the surface. Cover with a light layer of compost and water. Place in a greenhouse or conservatory and continue to water and turn so the plants do not dry out and the flowers do not grow towards the sun. When the risk of frost pas passed in March, the plants can be hardened off by placing them outdoors during the day and bringing them back indoors at night. Repeat this for 7 days. The plants can then be transplanted outdoors into beds, borders or containers and will flower from May to September.
