Morning Glory
Half-hardy Perennial
This colourful variety has previously been an RHS Garden of Merit winner. An easy to sow and grow climber which produces showy blooms in sky blue, morning glory is the perfect choice to climb garden walls, fences and unsightly areas which it will cover in silk green foliage and an abundance of trumpet blooms.
Sow Indoors: February - May
Transplant: April - May
Flowers: July - September
Sow Indoors
Before sowing seeds, soak them in a cup of tepid water for 24hrs. This will soften the hard shell and speed germination.
Sow seeds into a tray of good quality damp compost. Lightly cover and place in a warm sunny position. Germination can take 14 - 21 days.
Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, they must be hardened off by placing them outdoors during the day and bringing them back indoors at night. Repeat for 10-15 days. Plants should be placed near a structure which they can be trained to grow up by loosely securing them with garden twine. The plants will naturally climb. Structures can be made with canes and garden twine and plants will grow well in bords or containers.
Seeds can be harvested from the pods and stored in paper bags ready for sowing the following year.
