A traditional favourite producing flowers in a bright mixture of colours. A lovely addition to any bed, border or patio container. Also, ideal as cut flowers to bring a touch of summer indoors.

Sow Outdoors: March - June or September (for early flowers the following year)

Direct Sow
Poppies prefer to be in well-drained soil and a sunny position. Sow seeds into fine, warm soil direct outdoors where they are to flower at a depth of 6mm. Always sow seeds after all risk of frost has passed and the ground is warm and moist. Germination 14-21 days.
Thin seedlings as they start to emerge to 23cm apart and remove competing weeds during growth. Sow seeds in September for early flowers the following year.

Livingstone Daisy
Half-hardy Annual
A compact mixture of daisy type flowers in a mixture of colours. Livingstone daisy or ice plants are a popular cottage garden flower which opens in the sunshine and closes up in the shade. The petals look like they have been sprinkled with ice and they thrive in rockeries and dry banks.

Sow Indoors: February - April
Transplant: April - May
Flowers: June - September

Sow indoors
Sow seeds into a pot of good quality compost and lightly cover. Position the pot in a warm sunny location and keep the compost damp to the touch but not wet. Germination 14-21 days.
Once seedlings emerge, turn the pot regularly to prevent plants from growing towards the sun. Once the risk of frost has passed, plants can be moved outdoors. Harden off by placing plants outdoors during the day and bringing them back indoors at night. Repeat this for 7 - 10 days to acclimatise the plants. Plants can then be transplanted into the final position in beds or containers.
