Sow Indoors
Sow seeds into trays of good quality compost and lightly cover. Place tray into a heated propagator or clear bag in a warm sunny position. Tomato seeds like to be grown in warm conditions, a greenhouse or warm conservatory are ideal. Germination should take between 7-14 days. Once seedlings have 2 true leaves they can be transplanted into individual containers and should be kept warm.
If plants are to be transferred outdoors, they should be hardened off by placing them outdoors during the day and bringing them back indoors at night. This should be repeated for 7-10 days. Plants should be spaced 25cm apart and be located in a warm sheltered position. Growbags are ideal for tomato plants, fitting 3 plants per bag. Feed regularly with a high potash tomato feed once the first flowers are showing.
Choose a position in full sun if growing on outdoors. Plants may need some support when fruiting. Use garden canes and twine.
